6th SPC on Nature Conservation and Protected Areas

President Jacob Nena informed Pohnpei State Governor Del Pangelinan
in a May 22, 1997 letter, that the FSM Government will be hosting the
Sixth South Pacific Conference on Nature Conservation and Protected
Areas from September 29 to October 3, 1997, in Palikir.

It is expected that over 150 participants from the Pacific region
will attend the conference.

An internal core group is being organized composed of FSM National
and Pohnpei State Government officials to handle logistical
arrangements for the conference.

The President requested Governor Pangelinan to designate the
following members of his staff, David Panuelo, Herson Anson, Bumio
Silbanuz and Valentino Santiago, who are familiar with the matter to
be members of the core group. Nena further stated that any
additional people the Governor deem should be in the group are
welcome.

The first meeting was scheduled for May 26, 1997.
