Akillino Susaia Sworn in as 1st Resident FSM Ambassador to ChinaPalikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): April 7, 2010 – On Friday, March 26th, 2010, Mr. Akillino Susaia was sworn in as the FSM’s first resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Government of the People’s Republic of China. The event took place in the President Cabinet’s room, which was attended by the President and Vice President, members of the Executive Cabinet, members of Susaia’s family, and the Vice Speaker of the FSM Congress. President Mori gave the oath and then, in his brief remarks, the President thanked Congress for their wisdom in passing this “difficult” nomination. Susaia has been serving as the Consul General for the FSM Consulate Office in Hawaii. He becomes the first resident Ambassador to China in the 20 year history of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Previously, Mr. Carl Apis, as the Charge d’ Affaires, a.i., and Mr. Vincent Sivas, as the First Secretary, have been running the FSM Embassy in Beijing.
