Annual Port Authority’s Meeting Held in Pohnpei

The sixth annual FSM Airport Managers conference was on March 17 and 18
1997, at the Central Facilities Building at the FSM Capital in Palikir,
Pohnpei, with Akillino H. Susaia, General Manager of Pohnpei Port Authority
chairing.

Participants included Airport Managers of all FSM States, representatives
of Continental Air Micronesia, Mobil Micronesia, Inc., National Fisheries
Corporation (NFC), FSM Department of Transportation and Communication,
FSM Division of Security and Investigation, FSM Immigration, FSM Office
of Planning and Statistics, FSM Customs, US Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA) and Yap State Department of Transportation and Communication.

The agenda included presentations and reports by the FAA District Office,
Regional Station Manager of Continental Micronesia Airlines on the topic:
Airlines and Airport Operations in the FSM – Building Partnerships; Mobil’s
Pohnpei representative, William Iriarte, spoke on the company’s operational
plans in the FSM; FSM Department of Transportation and Communications’
Aviation Administrator talked about FSM Airworthiness and Aircraft Safety
Procedural Guidelines; Chief Executive Officer of NFC, Peter Sitan, spoke
on the Impact of Airport Operations and Tariffs on the Development of the
FSM Fishing Industry.

Participants grouped into three working groups that dealt with topics
as Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) and related matters; Uniform
Airport Rules and Regulations and Master Plans; and on Security and Facilitation
and Ground Operations the result of which a number of recommendations were
adopted.

The conference also discussed the draft FSM Airport Association’s Bylaws
and elected new officers and it was decided that the Seventh FSM’s Airport
Manager’s Conference will be held in Yap immediately before the proposed
FAA Directors Sub-Regional Workshop on Guam in February 1998.
