May 1, 2025 (New York, FSMUN) – On 1 May 2025, the Permanent Mission of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) to the United Nations welcomed a diverse group of students from Brigham Young University-Hawaii, a private university located in Laie, Hawaii. The eight students, accompanied by Professor Matai’a Christina M. Akanoa, hailed from countries such as Fiji, Philippines, New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga, the US State of Montana and the FSM. The FSM’s own Ms. Selina Walter of Chuuk State joined several of the visiting undergraduate students studying at BYU-Hawaii, and will graduate from the university this Spring 2025.

During the visit to the Mission a presentation for the students focusing on the priority issues and interests of Micronesia at the United Nations and at the multilateral level was held by H.E. Permanent Representative Jeem S. Lippwe, DPR Mrs. Universe Yamase Lawrence, and Second Secretary, Mr. Martin Zvachula.
BYU-Hawaii is one of several universities that meet with the Permanent Mission of Micronesia during their visits to the United Nations, which for BYU-Hawaii has been carried on for several years.
