China Donates $30,000 To ChuukKOLONIA, Pohnpei (The Kaselehlie Press): July 25-August 7, 2002 – Zhang Binhua, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Federated States of Micronesia, has transmitted to Lorin Robert, Deputy Secretary of the Department of the Foreign Affairs, a donation of US$ 30,000. The funding from the government of China was provided to assist the people of Chuuk State recover following the devastation of Tropical Storm Chata’an last month. Mudslides caused by the storm resulted in the deaths of 47 persons and extensive damage. Mr. Zhang also conveyed the condolences of the government and the people of China. He said that China sincerely hopes that Chuuk State will soon recover from the disaster. Return to the News and Public Statements Page |
