China provides 1.8 million for FSM projectsPALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): January 7, 2004 – The Government of the People’s Republic of China has agreed to provide USD 1.8 million to the Federated States of Micronesia to fund economic and technical projects. Representatives of the two governments met on January 2, at the Chinese Embassy in Palikir and signed an Agreement to provide funding for economic and technical projects in the FSM. According to the Agreement, project details will be discussed and agreed upon by the two governments. Ambassador Zhang Binhua, signed on behalf of the Government of the People’s Republic of China with the Government of the FSM represented by Secretary Sebastian Anefal of the Department of Foreign Affairs. The ceremony provided an opportunity for both governments to strengthen and reaffirm commitments of bilateral and multilateral relations. Witness to the signing ceremony included officials from the FSM Department of Foreign Affairs and a visiting Chinese Government delegation, headed by He Yafei, Director-General of the Department of American and Oceania Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
