Communique Issued by Pacific Islands Environmental Conference on Sustainable DevelopmentPALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): June 24, 1997 – “WE, the participants of this Conference, have come together to WHEREAS, through traditional practices people of the Pacific WHEREAS, the Pacific Islands are unique because they are isolated WHEREAS, local and global economic development activities offer WHEREAS, reef ecosystems face growing threats from land-based WHEREAS, current waste disposal practices are inefficient and WHEREAS, this generation has an obligation to ensure the right of NOW THEREFORE, we resolve to support the following recommendations:
NOW THEREFORE, we further resolve to review our progress toward meeting these recommendations at the next Pacific Islands Environmental Conference”
