Core Group of countries advocating for and ICJ Advisory Opinion meets with UN S-G
March 16, 2023 (New York, FSMUN) – Micronesia, as part of a core group of countries, advocating for an Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice on legal obligations in respect of climate change, met with the Secretary-General of the United Nations today and updated him on the initiative.
The core group is comprised of 18 countries from all regions of the world with FSM, Samoa and Vanuatu representing the 3 Pacific subregions. So far 115 countries have announced their support for a draft resolution developed by the core group. The General Assembly is expected to take up the item on 29 March 2023.
