FSM & China Sign Agreement on Economic and Technical CooperationPalikir, Pohnpei (FSM Department of Foreign Affairs): September 9, 2005 – On Wednesday, August 31, 2005, Deputy Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Lorin Robert and Chinese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Yang Jiechi, signed, on behalf of their respective Governments of FSM and China, an agreement of economic and technical cooperation between the two nations in Beijing during a working visit to China. The signing of the agreement provides a generous grant from the Chinese government in the amount of RMB 30,000,000 (approximately USD 3,750,000). This grant will be used for the implementation of project(s) which will be discussed and agreed upon by the two governments. From the FSM side, Mr. Carl Apis, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Asian Affairs and Mr. Noah Ruben, Special Assistant to Governor, Chuuk State, were present for the signing.
