FSM Congress to Attend APPCED in PRC

FSM Congress Speaker Jack Fritz is heading a delegation from the FSM Congress to the 6th General Assembly of the
Asian-Parliamentarians’ Conference on Environment and Development in Guilin, the People’s
Republic of china scheduled for the 14 to the 18th of this month.

Speaker Fritz’s delegation include Vice Speaker Claude Phillip, Floor
Leader Joseph Urusemal and support staff Attorney Dennis Belcourt,
according to a release from Congress. The release stated that this is the first time the
FSM Congress is sending a delegation to participate in the APPCED. Li Peng, Chairman
of the Standing Committee on the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of
China, extended an invitation to Speaker Fritz inviting the FSM Congress to participate in
the Assembly. The theme of the conference is “Tourism and Sustainable
Development”. The agenda include the election of the President of the Assembly;
discussion on the relationship between tourism development and environment and resources
protection; discussion on the principles and strategies for sustainable development of
tourism, and discussion on the promotion of a sustainable development of tourism through
enhanced international cooperation.
