FSM Delegation Departed For New York

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): June 19, 1997
– President Jacob Nena and his delegation departed Pohnpei Wednesday
afternoon, June 18, 1997, on their way to New York where Nena will
address the Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly on
Monday, June 23, 1997, New York Time, which is Tuesday, June 24 in
the FSM.

In a communication to Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi
Annan, Nena indicated that his delegation will include the following:
Acting Secretary Epel Ilon, Department of External Affairs;
Ambassador Resio Moses, Permanent Mission to the United Nations;
Ambassador Jesse Marehalau, FSM Ambassador to the United States;
Senator Yosiwo P. George, FSM Congress; Deputy Permanent
Representative, FSM Mission to the United Nations Tadao P. Sigrah;
Minister James Stovall III, FSM Permanent Mission to the United
Nations; Executive Director of Microensian Maritime Authority Bernard
Thoulag; Minister Counselor Mathias Maradol, FSM Permanent Mission to
the United Nations; Special Assistant to the President Josiah Waguk;
Counsel Steven Hoffer, FSM Congress; and First Secretary Samson
Pretrick, FSM Embassy in the United States. The First Lady Lerina
Nena also accompanied the delegation.

In the meantime, President Nena designated Secretary of the
Department of Health Services Dr. Eliuel K. Pretrick to handle
routine matters of the Office of the President from June 18 to June
20, 1997 when Vice President will arrive Pohnpei from Palau.
