Iehsi Nominated Deputy Secretary of External Affairs

FSM Vice President Leo A. Falcam on July 23, 1997, transmitted to
Congress Speaker Jack Fritz, a proposed resolution for consideration
of Congress, nominating Ieske K. Iehsi to serve as Deputy Secretary
of the Department of External Affairs.

Born on January 4, 1955, on Pingelap Atoll, Pohnpei State, Iehsi
has a Master in Public Administration from Harvard University, John
F. Kennedy School of Government, which he attended from 1994-1995 as
an Edward S. Mason Fellow. He also received a Certificate in Public
Policy and Management from the same institution.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of
Hawaii, Manoa in Political Science in August 1977; from 1972 to 1973,
he attended Platteville High School under the American Field Service
Scholarship; 1969-1972, Ponape Islands Central School (PICS);
attended Pingelap Elementary School from 1962-1969.

His work experiences include from 1996 to present, as Special
Assistant to the Governor, Executive Office of the Governor, Pohnpei
State. He is responsible for administrative management of the Office
of the Governor. 1992-1994, Chief Protocol, FSM Department of
External Affairs; 1987-1992, Chief of Staff to the FSM President;
1982-1987, Special Assistant to the President for Legislative
Liaison; 1981-1982, Office manager , Office of the FSM Attorney
General; 1979-1981, Liaison Officer for the FSM Government in Saipan,
TTPI headquarters; 1977-1979 as Assistant Chief Clerk, Senate,
Congress of Micronesia.

Other experiences and accomplishments includes Vice Chairman of
the Micronesian Maritime Authority (MMA) from 1988-1991; Co-organizer
of the First Pohnpei State Economic Summit in 1996. Iehsi served as a
Delegate and Vice Chairman of the General Provision of the First
Pohnpei State Constitutional Convention in 1983. He also is actively
helping his home local government.

Iehsi completed a course on Foreign Government training under the
Micronesian Diplomatic Training Program, U.S. Department of State
Foreign Service Institute in 1988 and 1989. He has traveled to the
United States of America, Peoples Republic of China, Australia, Fiji,
Tonga, Vanuatu, Western Samoa, French Polynesia (Tahiti), Puerto Rico
and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
