 Plant and animal quarantine regs sent to governors, legislaturesPOHNPEI, Palikir (FSM Information Service): July 2000 – FSM President Leo A. Falcam has transmitted sets of the newly revised FSM plant and animal quarantine regulations and quarantine awareness leaflets to the Congress Speaker Jack Fritz, the four state governors and state legislative leaderships. The regulations were made known in November 1999 and became effective January 1, 2000. In his letters of transmittal the President wrote, “By having access to these regulations and the quarantine awareness leaflets, our importers, exporters, as well as the general public, would hopefully have a better understanding of the FSM’s quarantine requirements and could help us in achieving our agricultural quarantine goal: ‘To minimize the introduction of new pests and diseases so as to provide security for primary production to allow sustainability of existing markets and providing opportunities for export.”
