Pohnpei maintains executive and modifies legislative

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): December 16, 2003 – Pohnpei State has voted to maintain the leadership of Governor Johnny P. David and Lieutenant Governor Jack E. Yakana at the Executive Branch and with a few changes, kept most members of its Legislative Branch.

Awaiting certification by the State Election Commissioners office, the unofficial results of the December 9, run-off elections show, David won the gubernatorial seat by 133 votes: David – 8345 and Pangelinan – 8212. For the Lt. Governor, 40 votes spelled the difference between Yakana’s – 8293 and Edward’s – 8253.

To win the State’s elective seats, a candidate requires the following votes:

Executive Branch – majority of the total votes (50% – 1%);
Legislative Branch – plurality of votes cast in each election district.
