Shipment of Medicine to Chuuk

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): March 27, 1998 – President Jacob Nena, on March 17th,
informed Chuuk Governor Ansito Walter that the donated medicine described in his letter
will be exempted from import duties and the FSM Customs Regulations, according to his
Attorney General.

Nena was responding to Walter’s letter of March 13, 1998, seeking clarification on
whether donated medicine by the Church of the Nazarene for Chuuk State, are subject to the
FSM import tax and customs regulations.

Rev. Dave Hane, Assistant to the Regional Director, Church of Nazarene, based in
Manila, Philippines, told Walter that working together with Nazarene Compassionate
Ministries (NCM), Nazarene Health Care Fellowship (NHCF), and Heart to Heart (H2H) can
arrange shipment of medicine in a 20 foot container sent to Chuuk State.

Costs of shipment to the point of its arrival in Chuuk will be covered by NCM. Any
transportation or distribution charges in Chuuk will be the responsibility of Chuuk State.

NCM requested an official statement in a letter stating that the medicine will be
allowed into Chuuk State tax free and duty free. It will be used for humanitarian
purposes, and not for re-sale.

NCM requested a copy of the hospital’s “Formulary”, or a list of most commonly used medicine.
