Two Resolutions for Grant Aid from the People’s Republic of China Sent to Congress for ConsiderationPalikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Service): January 31, 2008 – Transmitted by the office of the President of the FSM to Speaker Isaac Figir for consideration by the 15th Congress of the FSM were two resolutions for grant aid from the People’s Republic of China. During President Mori’s recent trip to China an exchange letter agreement was signed between the two countries for a gratuitous grant of $1,000,000 USD for deposit into the FSM’s Trust Fund. The agreement was signed on December 20 in Beijing by China’s Vice Minister for the Ministry of Commerce Yu Guangzhou and by the FSM Secretary for the Department of Foreign Affairs Lorin S. Robert. The representatives of the two governments additionally signed an Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Federated States of Micronesia and the People’s Republic of China. The 20,000,000 RMB grant is to be used for the projects to be agreed upon between the two Governments. Specific matters in this regard will be stipulated in the subsequent agreements to be signed by the two countries.
