Well Drilling Rig for Uman Island

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): October 14,
1997
– President Jacob Nena, on October 8, 1997, responded to a
letter which Congress Speaker Jack Fritz requested in assistance of
the Office of Planning and Statistics (OPS) for well drilling on Uman
Island in Chuuk.

In his response, President Nena said that OPS has received a price
quotation of CIF price $31,701 for small drilling rig and ancillary
equipment, tolls and spare parts, from China Friendship Development
International Engineering and Design and Construction Cooperation.

Which is similar to that used on Fais Island in Yap which drilled
six inch boreholes to the depth of up to 60 feet. With funds readily
available, Nena wrote, the drilling rig can be purchased and
delivered within six weeks of ordering.

Nena concluded by saying that arrangements are being made to send
a team to Uman Island during the first week of November, to select
sites for the wells, tanks and pipelines and that he will advise
Fritz on the exact dates when finalized.
