WHO Provides Nurse to FSM for Eleven MonthsPALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): January 13, 1997 – The Department of Health Services recently welcomed a nurse provided to the FSM Government by the World Health Organization for a Short-Term Post (STP) for 11 months. Ms. Dana Thienemann, a Family Nurse Practitioner from the United States, presently visits the FSM as an 11-month consultant hired by the World Health Organization. She has been placed at the National Department of Health Services in Response to the Government’s request for strengthening nursing services. Much of her time will be devoted to providing continuing education programs, hands-on technical assistance, and nursing workshops aimed at mutually agreed upon nursing education needs. She comes to us with a Master’s degree in Community Health Nursing and a Clinical Nurse Specialist degree in Primary Health Care from the University of Arizona. She received her undergraduate degree in nursing at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. She has extensive background in developing communities throughout the Arizona-Mexico border area. While with the faculty at the University of Arizona, she taught Community Health Nursing in cross-cultural settings and continues to teach physical assessment skills and interviewing techniques for health care professionals.
