Department of Interior’s Cohen visits FSM

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service):July 7, 2003 – Deputy Assistant Secretary David Cohen from the Department of Interior – Office of Insular Affairs visited the FSM from 30 June – 2 July 2003.

The purpose of Deputy Assistant Secretary Cohen’s visit was to meet with officials of the FSM Government on the implementation of the amended Compact. Deputy Assistant Secretary Cohen was able to meet with the President, Vice President, Acting Speaker of the FSM Congress, Governor of Pohnpei State, Speaker of the Pohnpei State Legislature and other officials of the National Government and Pohnpei State Government during his short visit.

Deputy Assistant Secretary Cohen was also able to meet with the Chairman of JCN, Lt. Governor Gerson Jackson in Kosrae due to the over-flight of Air Micronesia on 30 June 2003.

The visit of Deputy Assistant Secretary Cohen provided the opportunity for the FSM officials at the National Government and Pohnpei State Government to seek clarification on a number of issues pertaining to the implementation of the amended Compact.
