October 20, 2022 (New York) – The Governments of the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of Bulgaria established diplomatic relations today at a ceremony held in New York. Ambassador Jeem Lippwe of Micronesia and Ambassador Lachezara Stoeva of Bulgaria signed a Joint Communiqué formalizing diplomatic relations.

During the meeting, the Ambassadors briefly discussed the importance of multilateralism to both countries. They agreed on the importance to combat climate change. Ambassador Lippwe reiterated the call of President Panuelo for the European Union to establish an Embassy in the country.

The establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries reaffirmed the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations and was done in accordance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 18 of April 1961, it was attended by members of the two respective Permanent Missions to the United Nations in New York. Bulgaria is the ninety-sixth country with which FSM has established diplomatic relations.
