President Mori Transmits to Congress a Resolution to Ratify the Convention on Privileges and Immunities of the UNPalikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Service): January 30, 2008 – FSM’s President Emanuel Mori, on January 28, 2008 transmitted to the 15th Congress of the FSM a resolution to ratify the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the UN. The Convention of the UN was adopted in 1946 and currently has 141 member countries. The FSM has yet to sign the Convention and is currently not a party. President Mori said in his transmittal letter that it is vital to establish a United Nations presence to assist with international funding, training and aid in time of natural disasters and for development purposes. He asked Congress to adopt the resolution during its upcoming regular session in order to extend the diplomatic relations between the FSM and the United Nations.
