Acting President Declared Pohnpei Disaster Area

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): April 23, 1997
– FSM Acting President Jacob Nena on April 21, 1997, declared
Pohnpei a disaster area and directed all FSM National Government
department, office and agency heads and employees to assist the
municipal, state governments in their efforts to help the victims of
the landslide for two days, on April 22 and 23, 1997.

The Acting President also directed that all efforts in providing
assistance should be coordinated through the emergency operation
center established in the Governor’s Conference Room at the Office of
the Governor. Because of the urgency of the situation, Nena urged
all employees to help those less fortunate.
